An article by the Texas State Historical Association adds: "Through its five-mile-long tidal outlet, Sabine Pass, the lake drains some 50,000 square miles of Texas and Louisiana into the Gulf of Mexico."
Sabine Lake is a great fishing spot. There is a wide variety of fish caught in and around Sabine Lake which includes Speckled Trout, Redfish, and Flounder. Ling and Tripletail can also be caught around the nearshore gas platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.
