About Alana M. Nevares, MD, Rheumatologist

Dr. Alana Nevares-Berrios is rheumatologist at the University of Vermont Medical Center and assistant professor at the Larner College of Medicine at UVM. Her areas of special interest include vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels), anti-synthetase syndrome (a rare inflammatory muscle disease), non-infectious uveitis (inflammation of the eyes), and systemic autoimmune conditions. Dr. Nevares also treats common rheumatologic disorders such as gout and rheumatoid arthritis.Her research interests includes Venous thromboembolic disease (VTE) in Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), which is small vessel vasculitis, in which small vessels become inflamed.Dr. Nevares-Berrios enjoys establishing diagnosis and treatment for her patients, caring for them and impacting their lives in a positive way. She likes to promote health, rather than just treat an illness.Her philosophy is to treat patients as individuals with an organic and spiritual dimension.
